August 21st, 2010The parking lot at the Rouyn campus of the Université du Québec en Abitibi-Témiscamingue is not wheelchair friendly. This issue is only one of many physical accessibility barriers at the university. I understand that there are students who have been battling the university for at least 3 years, asking them to resolve the issues. So far, they have gotten nowhere.

July 26th, 2009It's an outrage. The car of a wheelchair-bound woman was clamped, not once, but TWICE, reports the Waikato Times. Apparently the first time, the permit had fallen off the dashboard. This time, she left home with an expired permit by mistake. Her vehicle was clamped and she apparently had difficulties getting the clamped removed. It is indeed an outrage. I am a wheelchair user, and you might be surprised to hear I don't have a whole lot of sympathy for Mrs Adams.

July 19th, 2009Some people will think I'm making too much of a fuss about disability parking spaces being used by people who don't have a parking permit. There's already been grumbles on Twitter that I'm like a dog with a bone, I won't let it go. I admit, it's a pet peeve of mine. The thing is, it *does* invade my life and impacts on just about everything I do outside the house.
