Jack Kevorkian Dies at Age 83

The Atlantic Wire reports that Jack Kevorkian died today. I have mixed feelings on Dr. Death's end. I cannot rejoice that a man has died. Yet, I will rest easier now that a mass murderer cannot advocate killing of people with disabilities.

Mass Grave of Disabled People Found - They Were Murdered By Nazis

Involuntary Euthanasia by Proxy

A recent article in the New Zealand press talks about how a doctor placed a "Do Not Resuscitate" order in a patient's file, against the patient's wish. The patient's son noticed the order in his mother's file and countermended it. This kind of things concerns me a great deal when thinking of the issues of legalising physician assisted suicide.

Euthanasia

The way people treat their familiar is often a good indicator of how they'll treat their fellow humans. I say familiars, because "pet" just doesn't convey the relationship we can have with dogs or cats. Our dog is undergoing multiple medical tribulations. We've been told that it might be kinder to just put her to sleep. Euthanasia. I was tempted to ask these people if they'd kill their kid because they had to undergo a couple expensive surgeries…
