Thoughts on Physical vs. Web Accessibility
August 27th, 2010I received an email from a friend who is attending a11yMTL, a conference about web accessibility. Mimi is a graphic designer, who happens to be a wheelchair user. As she knows I grew up in Montréal and have accessibility of both physical structures and the web at heart, she shared with me some of her thoughts. And the words failed me. I couldn't quite believe what I saw. The entire site is one big Flash object. You don't get much LESS accessible than that.

February 28th, 2008It seems people tend to see accessibility as a nice bonus, but nowhere near mission critical. This is especially true when we compare the relative importance of accessibility and SEO. But what people forget is that search bots are a little bit like screenreaders. Accessibility is not only helping your visitors with disabilities, but it will help search bots to make sense of your site and to find your content.
