I Was Not Begging

February 9th, 2011

Some people make assumptions, or just don't think at all. I think that's what happened with this guy.

A friend and I were at a shopping mall. She'd been drinking a coffee when she remembered she had to go into one of the stores to pick something. She handed me her half-drank cup of coffee to hold while she ran in.

Coffee paper cup

It was a paper cup, which a cardboard wrapper to be able to hold the extra hot coffee. No lid on this one though.

I was minding my own business. Sitting in my wheelchair, just holding the coffee cup for my friend. Suddenly, some guy walks up to me, doesn't say a thing, and I see something go in the cup. I felt the cup move, and I heard a bit of a sloshing sound. I was puzzled for a second, and then it dawned on me.

The guy had thrown a handful of coins in the cup - he thought I was begging! He was gone before I had a chance to say anything.

To add insult to injury, after draining the coffee, we discovered there was not even $0.50. Nowhere *near* enough to replace the coffee.
